ANITA SAMOUELIAN Obituary

Anita Samouelian peacefully passed away in Northville, MI, on March 3, 2024, just days before her 95th birthday. Born March 18, 1929, in Highland Park, MI, her parents were Koorken and Aghavnie (Chamian) Stepanian. She grew up with her close, loving sisters, Gloria, Araxia, and brother Levon. In 1944, the family moved to Santa Monica, California, where Anita completed her education and graduated from University High School in 1947.

Shortly after having served in the US Army during WWII, Archie Samouelian returned to civilian life. He and his family went on a well-deserved vacation to California. They visited the Stepanian family, to whom Archie had delivered newspapers to in his Highland Park youth. A rekindled spark turned into a flame of love and Anita and Archie were married on June 19, 1949, in LA’s St James Armenian Church.

Soon after, they moved back to Michigan and raised their boys on Rutherford Street in Detroit, where they strengthened their old friendships and ties with new neighbors. Anita graciously embraced Archie’s family, especially his sisters, Isabel and Armineh. Their final home was built in 1975 on Brander Road in Northville, MI.

Anita kept a nice home and was always impeccably dressed – a trait she had learned from her father. That carried into all of her motherly virtues. With love as the binding force, she strongly encouraged and helped her children to achieve a college education. Her friends and relatives were also the receivers of her sincere friendship and love.

Family time was very important for her. Having fun making great tasting BBQs, keeping abreast of sports, and planning road trips and vacations all over the USA, introduced them to the Soo Locks and Traverse City in upper Michigan, all the way across the states to visit relatives in California.  With each passing year, Anita felt blessed to have the grandchildren and great-grandchildren in her arms and included them in the happy family activities.

Anita was a humble philanthropist. During her lifetime, she supported several great organizations that helped people – Religious, Health Care, and Economic; to name a few: St. John Armenian Church, American Cancer Society, Project Hope, and several other non-profit organizations. She leaves her family and loved ones a superb legacy.
