Obituary for Gregory Charles Javizian

In answer to our prayers, a boy was given to us by God - a boy with a golden heart who had never met a stranger. His goal in life, from a very young age, was to get involved in the lives of anyone he encountered, be they young or old, strong or week, giving or needy. At age seven, within the first week we had moved to a new home, he invited the couple next door to his school play. He quickly made friends, not only with the kids on the block, but he would also make it a point to check in on his best friend’s grandmother, every time he went to their house. Even as an infant, he made an immediate bond with his own grandmother, aunts and uncle, by means of his broad smile and playful nature. His aunts were quick to get on the floor to play with him. At the age of 4 he had started in a local hockey league. Within a year he was on a team. He specialized in defense and, at age 9, was a big factor when his team won the local team level championship. In the championship game, his assignment was to prevent the league leading scorer from scouring, and he did! During his growing years, he would take great delight in going to Red Wings Hockey games with his father and his father’s friends. He fit right in, respecting them and at the same time being one of the boys. From hockey, he switched to swimming and then, when in high school, combining his hockey and swimming skills, he transitioned into water polo. He became one of the team’s top players. His parents were proud of him when he played; his powerful swimming, his hard and accurate shots, and when he blocked an opponents’ shots, his tall and lean body would shoot out of the water like a missile. Gregory was totally at home when he attended church. Besides seeing his Red Wings buddies: Howard A., Levon N., Gary E. and Jerry D. he also made friends with the church maintenance employees. In addition to making friends with those who were older than him, he made friends with his Church School classmates, including the teachers. Gregory took pride and delight in participating in church volunteer activities; the bazaar and picnic were his favorites. His bond with family continued. Joking with his cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents was a delight to watch. As his aunts and uncles grew older,, he became concerned with their health because, at age 7, he had to deal with the deaths of his Grandma Alice and then Grandpa Bob. A few years later he lost Uncle Berg. They were all very special people to him. When Grandma Pergrouhie’s health began to decline, Gregory was right there with his concern to help her in any manner possible. He would encourage her, joke with her and assist her, to totally protect her when she was in the hospital and then later in the nursing home. Whenever he had an opportunity to talk to the other patients, he would help them to sit up in bed, get into a wheelchair, or just wheel them around. Now that he is at peace, Gregory’s love and compassion for others shall remain as a bright beacon of light for his family, friends and especially for his two sweet daughters...........
