Obituary for ISABELLE ZAKARIAN

Isabelle Zakarian was born on March 11, 1927 to Araski and Ohannes Gangian. She was the oldest of 5 siblings which included Lillian, Annabelle, Jerry and Harry.
Isabelle was raised in a loving family and graduated from Fordson High School in 1945.
As a young woman Isabelle was quite adventurous for a female of that time spending one summer biking through Canada and another living in New York City. She was an attractive woman that always wore a beautiful fun-loving smile and never had a bad word to say about anyone.
In 1949 she married the love of her life Mesak Zakarian and raised two devoted children, Tom and Arlene. Tom and Arlene were both married and spouses Grant and Beth quickly and fully became part of the family. She later became the proud grandmother of 4….. Alex, Kevin, Tamara and Michael who provided 6 great grandchildren.
Isabelle had a wonderful marriage with Mesak who kept her totally entertained with his sense of humor, music, and love of life. The two of them fully enjoyed their marriage and lived in 3 homes in Dearborn before moving to a beautiful gulf side setting in Sanibel, Florida.
While Mesak provided financial support for the family Isabelle had her own set of talents. She made many of her own clothes, knitted, did macramé, hand sewed cards and became a master quilter winning numerous awards. Beyond that her cooking, especially of the Armenian cuisine was quite outstanding. No one would argue that her kuftas were second to none.
Mesak unfortunately passed away at the young age of 67 and Isabelle was on her own for her last 24 years. She moved from Florida to Dallas in her 70s to be near her daughter Arlene and son in law Grant. While she appreciated all of their loving support and knew they were always there for her, she also proved she could live quite independently. At the age of 85 she moved into an independent senior facility outside of Dallas where her life was literally reinvigorated. She made friends too numerous to count whom she shared breakfast, dinner, and nightly games with. She also joined exercise classes, participated in their senior Olympics, attended social hour and of course there was her favorite activity…..Bingo. These times at the Josey Ranch Senior Living Center were truly a blessing and allowed her to conclude her life in a manner she fully embraced.
While her 91 years marked a long and wonderful life, she was not ready to go, nor were her family and friends ready to give her up. She handled the final steps in her earthly life bravely and gallantly. She was a devoted wife, wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend that will continue to live in the hearts of all who knew her.
