Kelly Kuchukian passed away October 5, 2017, in the Chicago suburb of Vernon Hills, Illinois.
Kelly was born in Detroit Michigan. He attended Cass Tech High School in the aeronautical engineering program, and later graduated from University of Detroit with a degree in engineering. He served in the Navy during WW2 as a Range Finder, and also the ships barber. He married the love of his life, Sima June 3, 1950 and they had 4 children. He worked at Chrysler Missile after leaving the Navy but spend most of his career at General Motors from 1959-2002. He held several positions while at GM from design engineer to development engineer. He specialized in doors and windows, and as a tribute to his accomplishments, they named a building within the proving grounds in his name. As a craftsman, there wasn't anything that Kelly could not do...nothing. Building instruments, fixing everything, making tools, sewing, cooking...you name it, and Kelly did it. In a nutshell, he was a "jack of all trades"...yet unlike the remainder of that phrase, "He was a master of ALL".

Kelly was an accomplished musician. He played the oud, an Armenian instrument and played professionally; first with the Dertad Band, and later with the Hye Tones who provided entertainment to nightclubs, weddings, picnics, and the like, and later went on to record 2 albums.

Kelly was a member of St. Johns Armenian Church, the Knights of Vartan, and AGBU. He was the Committee Chairman of the AGBU Camp. He and his family were also members of SMASH, Southwest Michigan Armenian Ski HOUMPH! He and Sima traveled around the world, went on several cruises and family time was number one. Crammed in a corvair, the family would go skiing, family trips, picnics and outings. he loved life.

Kelly was best known for his love of life, pure and simple. He was definitely one of the best husband, father, grandfather and a role model that we all aspire to. He was a jokester, always up for a good time, and had a heart of gold. When you met him, his precious smile and strong handshake would warm your heart immediately. He was a friend to all and enemy of none. His presence was subtle yet immense. No one will ever take his place...no one. His was not a life stolen, but a life lived. God rest his soul.
