Simon Javizian began serving the community in funeral service in 1952. Upon successfully completing his studies in Mortuary Science at Wayne State University, he was licensed by the State of Michigan and was also accredited by the National Board of Funeral Service. He then purchased the funeral home at 17550 Woodward Avenue in Detroit, where he had served his apprenticeship, and renamed it the Simon Javizian Funeral Home.

Always concerned about providing the finest service to each family, and maintaining a respectful and meaningful final tribute for their loved one, Simon handled every instance with compassion and understanding.

He and his wife, Alice (nee Mamassian), worked hand-in-hand to carry out this mission of service with passion. Ever mindfull, though, of her responsibilities for her young children Lynn and Semon, Alice made it a point to be home for her children returning home after school hours, as she continued to faithfully answer the funeral home phones at home, to be helpful to all callers.

Being born in a loving family, who set a fine example, Simon and Alice were overjoyed when their son, Semon B. Javizian, following in his father’s footsteps, became licensed, too, after completing his studies at Wayne State University. Renaming it Simon Javizian & Son Funeral Home, they added a new division, managed by Semon, Great Lakes Funeral Services, which uniquely provided to other funeral establishments professional support services and chauffeured funeral livery vehicles. With their specialized expertise in handling difficult situations, father and son became notable by their client families and also by others in their profession. Reaching out to all who called upon them, they served them all, even by utilizing many other facilities as necessary, beyond their own funeral home, to be closer to each family they served. Soon, their reputation spread further and Simon became licensed in California. Both Simon and Semon are also licensed in Florida, too. Semon is currently residing in Florida with his family and Lynn is residing in California with her family, both blessing Simon and Alice with cherished grandchildren.

However, for more than half a century, the funeral home remains steadfast in the Detroit Metropolitan area. Although Alice passed away in 2011, the day after their 56th wedding anniversary, Simon is commemorating his 64th year in funeral service. For all those many years, Simon and Alice Javizian also volunteered their services to the church and community, locally, nationally and internationally. Elected to various positions of leadership in numerous organizations, they humbly served in many capacities, chairing committees to further the works of charity, religion, helping the needy, philanthropy, or arts and science, education and cultural heritage.

Having moved from his original building after 60 years on Woodward at 6 Mile Road, Simon joined forces with his good, longtime friend and colleague, John E. Wilk. Now, the beautiful, with spacious parking lot, Simon Javizian Funeral Directors – Wessels and Wilk Funeral Home on Woodward Avenue and 9½ Mile Road at I-696, is more conveniently located with its connections to all major expressways.

Simon and John, and Simon’s staff of many years, continue with the same sacred mission to reach out and serve with dignity, compassion and understanding, respecting all faiths, organizations, or individual's preference, by offering many affordable options from Pre-arrangements, Cremations, Personally in charge of services anywhere in the United States or Canada, World-wide transfers, Personalized Alternative services, or a Full range of Traditional services.

By so doing, they fulfill their motto, "Dedicated To Those We Serve"
