ALICE A. SRABIAN

Alice Srabian peacefully passed away in her home on October 25, 2024. She was born on July 2, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan, the oldest of four daughters born to  Suren and Armenian Genocide survivor Nartuhi (nee Chichagian) Fustukian.  Alice grew up in Delray and graduated from Southwestern High School.  During WWII Alice worked in the factory, serving her country in the war effort, as did many young women at that time.  After the war, she worked in her uncle’s restaurant, where she met her husband Shavarsh.  

They were married on May 31, 1947. The happy couple was blessed with the birth of six children and remained together until his death in 2005. In 1953 they had bought their first and only house in Wyandotte Michigan. Their home became a gathering hub for family and friends.  Alice was an incredible cook and homemaker. She loved being involved in everything her children did. She was PTA president, Cub Scout den mother, Campfire Girls troop leader, and hostess to all her children’s friends. 

At the age of 43, after her sixth child was born, she went to work at Wyandotte General Hospital as a nurse’s aide. She loved taking care of people so much that at 49 she attended Ann Arbor Nursing School and became a LPN.  After graduation, she returned to Wyandotte Hospital and worked in the special care unit until she retired at the age of 62. 

Alice cherished her independence and taught others to stand strong, yet her heart was always open to others.  Alice was resilient and tenacious.  She desired and was able to stay in her own home, always surrounded by family.   All her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren loved Alice deeply.  She was thought of as a second mother and grandmother to many.  She will be deeply missed.

FAMILY MEMBERS

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Shavarsh, and sister Rose Geragosian. Alice was the dearest sister of Kate (the late Gil) Roberts, and Lulu (Edward) Andrews. She was a loving mother of Tomalynne Srabian, John (Sandra) Srabian, George (Kelli) Srabian, Norma (Thomas) DeSana, Mary Srabian and Peter Srabian. Alice was a nurturing grandmother of eight and proud great-grandmother of eight children. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS

Under the care of Simon Javizian Funeral Directors, visitation will take place on November 5, 2024, Tuesday, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Molnar Funeral Home - R.J. Nixon Chapel, 2544 Biddle Avenue, Wyandotte, MI 48192, with Dan Gark prayers at 7:00 pm.

The family will also receive friends in St. John Armenian Church, 22001 Northwestern Hwy, Southfield, MI 48075 on Wednesday, starting at 10:00 am with the Funeral Service at 11:00 am.

Entombment will take place at a later date in the family crypt in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Mi.
