ARA "Harry" Shooshanian

Ara (Harry) Shooshanian was born on January 22, 1929 at 1919 McKinstry in Detroit. He attended Western High School. During the Korean War he served in the U. S. Army from 1951 to 1953 in Germany. In 1953 he married Ganelle (Jenny) Chakoian in St. Sarkis Church. They had five children, Mark, Marla, Myra, Maria and Matthew, son-in-law Richard Payne, daughter-in-laws Barbara and Jennifer, grandchildren, Casey, Rachel Jamy, Kristi, Jeff, Keri, Michael, Alex, Justin, Sam and Hannah, great grandchildren, Michael Jeffrey (MJ), Cole, Kendall, Braden, Alex, and Mason. He is preceded in death by his brother Charles, survived by sister-in-law Monnie, nieces Denise Traphagen (Mike) and Susan Zazain (Dr. John), cousins Marty and Diana, Sonia and Kenny Simonian, and Mitchell. He also leaves behind his beloved godchildren, Sona, Elizabeth, Andrew, Mitchell and Nicole.Harry worked at Great Lakes Steel for 34 years and retired in 1985. He also was a part of the Fordson High School football "chain gang" for over 25 years. He was awarded the "Distinguished Tractor" award in 2015. He was also a member of Detroit Mourad Chapter of the AYF, Sebouh Chapter of ARF, Michael Bokatzian American Legion Post 486, past President of Great Lakes Steel Management Club and Great Lakes Steel Retirees Club, St. Sarkis Board of Trustees, First Monday Breakfast Club and Past President of 100 Hyes......VISITATION AND DAN GARK PRAYERS Sunday from 2pm to 8pm with Dan Gark prayers at 7pm in Querfeld Funeral Home; 1200 Oakwood Blvd; Dearborn, MI FUNERAL & MILITARY HONORS: The family will receive friends Monday 10am until time of funeral service at 11am followed by US Army Military Honors at 12 noon in St Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church 19300 Ford Road; Dearborn, MIINTERMENT: Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan....FAMILY MEMBERS:He is survived by his wife Ganelle; Children Mark (Barbara), Marla Sherlock, Myra (Richard) Payne, Maria, Matthew (Jennifer); 11 Grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; Brother the late Charles (Monney); Cousins Marty (Diana), Sonia (Kenny) Simonian, Mitchel; And many relatives and friends.....ARRANGEMENTS in the care of SIMON JAVIZIAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS 248-626-7815...Kindly leave a loving remembrance here for the family and friends to see.
