Arthur Melkonian peacefully passed away on September 15, 2018, with his family around him. Born in Syracuse, New York, on March 7, 1929, he was the son of Nazar and Agnes (nee Zartarian) Melkonian. The family moved to Dearborn, Michigan, when Art was just an infant. He and his sister, Delores, grew up in the Armenian Community there and, while in school, Art entered the Co-op Program with Detroit Edison Company. After graduating from Fordson High School, Art began working for Detroit Edison. He entered the U.S Army and loyally served his country with the rank of Sergeant in the Korean War. Upon his return to civilian life, he resumed his career with Detroit Edison, from where he retired as a Salvage Sales Representative after 42 years. Shortly after retirement, Arthur joined Minkin-Chandler Corporation and assumed the position of Vice-President of the Company. Happily, he married Gloria Davidson in 1954 and became a devoted husband and dedicated father to his children and grandchildren. He worked hard to provide for his family. With a big heart, he had respect for family and friends and was selfless in making sure that everybody was comfortable. A self-taught clarinetist, Art was a key member of the Arax Band, playing for dancing and entertainment for many joyful events, weddings and dinner/dances. Arthur and Gloria enjoyed traveling all over the world. Their many destinations included, Hawaii, Greece, Turkey, New Zeeland, Aruba and the Caribbean Islands. But, mostly, Art's top favorite was spending Winters in Florida. With his warm and caring life style, Arthur Melkonian leaves a legacy of love and respect for all.
