ARTHUR PAPAZIAN Obituary

Art Papazian passed away on February 14, 2016 in Commerce, Michigan. Born on April 29, 1928, in Windsor, Ontario, he was the son of Setrag and Zuvart (Semezian) Papazian. Art ,his older brother Vern (12months older) and sister ,Sylvia ( 3 years younger), were raised by their mother after their father was tragically killed by a car as he attempted to walk his bike across the busy street with Vern in tow. The family received no compensation for the loss and were forced to go on welfare .He tried to help his mother in any way he could. As a young child he would pull his wagon along the railway tracks looking for fallen pieces of coal that they could use in their potbelly stove. The ice-wagon would also provide chucks of ice if they were lucky to retrieve them before they melted. Art was able to go to W.D. Lowe Vocational School before he had to go to work to help support the family. He worked for many years at the Sivadjian Carpet Store, where he learned the carpet business. Other jobs included working at the Windsor Ice Arena, as well as picking tobacco in Delhi, Ontario. He really enjoyed the job in Delhi. Though seasonal, he grew very close to the owners and looked forward to returning each summer after school. He came to the USA and one of his many jobs as carpet installer eventually led to a long career at Hagopian and Sons. He succeeded there and was a trusted member of the staff as the Manager of the Fire/Flood Restoration Department. Art married Pearl Barigian in 1957 and became a devoted husband and loving father to their son, Matthew. Art loved to travel to northern Michigan, especially Traverse City. He was an avid reader. His favorites were autobiography/biography but he kept an extensive library of all books. Art was a collector of coins and model cars. He liked sports, to attend plays and enjoyed opera, especially the Three Tenors. He was also an active member in the Detroit Athletic Club. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed spending time with his all his family and friends. He was the favorite uncle to his many nieces and nephews. Art leaves behind a legacy of generosity, loyalty and love for family. ************************************************* Family Members:* Beloved wife, the late Pearl Papazian.
