Cheryl Diane (Afetian) O’Connor passed away suddenly at her mother’s home in Canton, MI, early in the morning on August 13, 2023, at the age of 52.
Cheryl was born May 3, 1971, at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn, MI, the eldest child of Edward Stephen and Sandra Lee (Bruening) Afetian.
Cheryl grew up in Canton, MI, with her parents and younger sister, Michele (Mish). As a kid, she enjoyed spending summers up north with her family in East Tawas. She enjoyed fishing with her dad, three-wheeling, and hanging out with her family and friends.
If you ever played a board game, card game, or lawn game with Cheryl, you know her enthusiasm for playing games and you know how much she loved to win. Cheryl loved to cheer on her Red Wings and Tigers and loved playing with her cats Festus and Miss Kitty. She was also the winningest coach in Mish’s Kickball Tournament history.
She graduated from Plymouth Canton High School in 1989 and attended the University of Detroit Mercy for a time afterward. Cheryl met Kevin O’Connor in 1987. The two began dating and married in 1997.
FAMILY MEMBERS
Cheryl was preceded in death by her father, Edward Afetian; parents-in-law, John (Mike) and Geraldine (Gerry) O’Connor; grandparents, Semon and Agnes Afetian, and Frank (Bud) and Betty Bruening.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Kevin O’Connor; mother, Sandra (Bruening) Afetian; sister, Michele (Andy Cacossa) Afetian; sisters-in-law, Margaret (John) Marr, Kathleen Bock, Aimee (Larry) Bird, and Therese (Dale) Boulware; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She will be dearly missed.
FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS
The viewing will be held on August 16, 2023, Wednesday from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with Dan Gark Prayer Service at 6:30 pm in St. Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church, 19300 Ford Road, Dearborn, MI 48128.
Funeral Service will take place in the church on August 17, 2023, Thursday at 11:00 am, followed by a Memorial Luncheon in the church Dining Room.
The interment will be at Graveside in Woodmere Cemetery, 9400 W. Fort Street, Detroit, MI 48209.
All are invited to attend the Memorial Luncheon and the cemetery interment.
