Dorothy Gallo peacefully passed away on February 4, 2022, with her family around her. Born in Highland Park, Michigan, on February 27, 1926, she was the daughter of Osgean and Vartanoush (nee Baylerian) Gurunian. Growing up in an Armenian community, Dorothy acquired a love of dancing, especially to the music of Glenn Miller and the big-band sounds. She also had an early affinity for business, dealing with the public. While in high school, Dorothy held a part time job at the refreshment counter of the famous downtown Fox Theater.
After graduating from Highland Park High School, she worked for Chrysler Corporation, working a clerical position related to manufacturing essential war materials to help her country win victory in World War II. Following that important part in her life, Dorothy began employment with J. L. Hudson Department Store in downtown Detroit. Among her various positions, she was placed in the Northland Center store, which was a milestone for regional shopping centers in the United States. After a lifetime of faithful employment, at age 82 she retired from the Summit Mall location.
Earlier in life, she had met Joseph Gallo on a friend’s arranged “blind date”. They fell in love and were married. Dorothy became a loving wife and caring mother. They had many trips together as a family. They visited Joe’s family in Colorado and enjoyed Dorothy’s family cottage on Lake Huron in Lexington, Michigan.
She had a profound feeling regarding a well-balanced, disciplined life. In addition to her strong, tireless work ethic and her deep spiritual faith, she delighted in the enjoyment of life's lighter aspects and loved going to the casino to play on the slot machines. A loyal friend to all, Dorothy shall be missed by those who loved her.
