Aram Yavruyan peacefully passed away, with his beloved wife next to him, in Manoogian Manor, Livonia, Michigan, on July 31, 2021, one year short of his 100th birthday. Born in Istanbul, Turkey, on February 7, 1922, he was the son of Arshag and Yeranouhi (nee Alyanakian) Yavruyan. Aram was a quiet boy, who led a serious life and was always friendly with his neighbors and friends.
A respected pharmacist, Arshag encouraged his sons to pursue higher education in professional fields. Being a studious student, Aram continued his education and earned his Doctor of Medicine degree in Kablak University, majoring in the specialty of Urology.
Since their father had once been in Detroit, Aram and his brother, Masis, immigrated to Detroit, following Aram’s graduation from the university. Aram met the love of his life and married Sara Nazarian, whose parents had fled from Istanbul, surviving the Genocide. The happy couple established their residence in Highland Park until many years later when they moved into their home in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan. Until his retirement, Aram was a dedicated staff doctor in several area hospitals.
Aram and Sara were respected members of the community, supporting artistic, cultural, educational and philanthropic organizations. They were active members of the Cultural Society of Armenians from Istanbul, as well as supporters of St. Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church.
Dr. Aram Yavruyan shall always be remembered for his sincere dedication and quiet personality, balanced with his ever-present warm smile and gentle sense of humor.
