ESTHER VOSGERCHIAN Obituary

Esther Vosgerchian passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of November 11, 2020 at her residence, American House, in Dearborn Heights, at the age of 97. Known as "Aunt Stitch" by many beyond her family, Esther was born on December 16, 1922 to Ohannes and Kegoohie (Siroonian) Vosgerchian in Detroit, Michigan. She the eldest of eldest of three children and was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Roxie Vosgerchian and her brother Dr. Aram "Buzz" Vosgerchian. She is survived by two nieces, Lynn Marentette, Karen Roberts, one nephew, Gregory Vosgerchian, six great nieces and nephews, one great nephew, and a number of cousins.Both of Esther's parents were born in Kghi, Historic Armenia. Her childhood years were spent in the Delray neighborhood in Detroit, home to many immigrants, including Armenians who had survived the Ottoman Turkish massacres. Esther graduated from Southwestern High School, where she was active in sports. She spent many of her working years at the accounting firm Coopers & Lybrand, where she retired after many years as a dedicated, detailed, well-organized and valued employee. These characteristics served her well in life.Like her parents, Esther was active in the Armenian community. Esther had a gift for teaching and was the beloved teacher of Armenian dancing to generations of people. As a young child, she learned English quickly and helped other children learn English as they attended school, and is remembered as a "big sister" by many. She was active in the Armenian Youth Federation (AYF) and in her younger years, participated in the AYF Olympics. She was involved with fundraising and event planning for many important causes, and served on various committees, where her hard work and organization skills served others well.Esther was proud of her Armenian heritage and was valued as a resource about the history of Armenia and Armenians, of the past and after the diaspora. She was a strong and feisty woman who never hesitated to let others know what she thought. She will be remembered fondly by her family and friends.FAMILY MEMBERSHer late parents, Ohannes and Kegoohie (Siroonian) Vosgerchian. Her beloved two nieces, Lynn Marentette, Karen Roberts, one nephew, Gregory Vosgerchian, six great nieces and nephews, one great nephew, and a number of cousins, and many other relatives and friends.FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTSThe family will receive friends in St. Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church, 19300 Ford Road, Dearborn, MI 48128 on November 17, 2020, from 12 Noon until funeral services at 1:00pm.Interment will take place in the family lot in Woodlawn Cemetery, Detroit.
