GEORGE MOURADIAN

George Mouradian peacefully passed to his eternal life on July 3, 2024 at the age of 97. He was known for his love of history, especially Armenian history, woodworking skills, gardening expertise, & fascination with outdoor adventure. He was also known for his humor, wit & charming personality. He never lost his curiosity, sense of wonder, or desire to learn about other people. This yearning for intellectual stimulation kept him young at heart. He made friends effortlessly because of his easygoing personality & ability to see the good in others. Everybody loved him. George truly lived his life unapologetically with no regrets.

George was born in Detroit, MI on May 2, 1927 to Vahan & Armenouhi Mouradian. He was the eldest brother to sister Alice. As a young boy, rumor has it that he was quite mischievous, his cousins called him “Char Georgie”. After a 1945 graduation in technical studies from Cass Tech High School, George proudly served in the Merchant Marines & also later in the US Army. After the untimely passing of his biological mother, George’s father was blessed with a remarriage to the lovely Elmas, becoming a wonderful addition to George’s life. He later advanced his education at Wayne State University, earning a Master’s Degree. As fate would have it, a vibrant young woman by the name of Rosie Hachigian caught George’s eye,…or did he catch her eye? We’ll truly never know. Nevertheless, George’s early revelation of knowing he would someday marry Rosie rang true. They were married at the iconic Hye Getron in 1950. In their early years, they drove their 1948 Pontiac Torpedo to Alaska, living there for a summer in 1951 & even moved to California for 5 years. Along the way they were blessed with 3 children, Michele (Peter) Mnatzakanian, Anita (Terry) Granger, & Vaughn (Kathy) Mouradian. Their adventurous marital years included quality time with friends & family, church fellowship, & traveling around the world. They enjoyed 73 treasured years together. When asked what the secret to their long marriage was George typically responded that he always got the last words in with Rosie & those words were “Yes Dear”.

Family, adventure & quest for knowledge were George’s forte. He was a trailblazer in many instances, filling a need when necessary. Throughout the years he worked as a lifeguard, a teacher, a carpenter, a reliability engineer, quality control manager, and later in life as a census & election poll worker, always eager to try something new. He co-initiated St. Sarkis Boy Scout Troop #1133, serving as a role model for young boys as Scout Leader for decades. He was also a member of ASQC & the AESA, & founded MAG & Associates. George taught Quality Control at the American University of Yerevan for a summer in 1997. He also authored 13 books on various topics. George enjoyed the company of family & friends, playing cards & tavloo & loved to dance. He cherished time with dear grandchildren Raffi (Barbara) Mnatzakanian, Zaven (Casey) Mnatzakanian, Aimee (Erik) Boillat, Olivia & Evan Mouradian. He was also blessed with great grandchildren, Jonah, Julia, Vartan, Nairi, Levon, Sofia, & Wesley.

George was employed at many companies, including Ford Motor Company, Aerojet General, LTV Aerospace, Massey Ferguson, Rockwell, & AM General, always advancing his technical skills. He was a pillar of St. Sarkis Armenian Church, serving in many capacities, including Principal of the Sunday School, NRA Delegate, Board of Trustee Member, & all around “Fix It Guy”. He belonged to the Fellowship Club & often organized their group activities. George was well respected & will be missed by many beloved friends & family members.

His beloved late wife Marguerite Rose Mouradian, family & his children, Michele (Peter) Mnatzakanian, Anita (Terry) Granger, & Vaughn (Kathy) Mouradian. He cherished time with dear grandchildren Raffi (Barbara) Mnatzakanian, Zaven (Casey) Mnatzakanian, Aimee (Erik) Boillat, Olivia & Evan Mouradian. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Jonah, Julia, Vartan, Nairi, Levon, Sofia, & Wesley.

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS

Under the care of Simon Javizian Funeral Directors, visitation will take place on July 18, 2024, Thursday, in Fred Wood Funeral Home, 36100 Five Mile Road (at Levan Rd), Livonia, MI 48154, from 3 PM to 8 PM, with Dan Gark prayers at 7:30 PM.  

The family will again receive friends the next day on Friday, in St. Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church, 19300 Ford Road, Dearborn, MI 48128, from 10 AM until the time of Funeral Service at 11 AM, followed by US Army Military Honors at 12 Noon.

Entombment will take place at 3 PM in the family crypt in Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens.

MEMORIAL DONATIONS

The family suggests that Memorial Donations be sent to either St. Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church, or to the ARS Artsakh Fund.
