George R. Sarkisian quietly passed away at home in Highland Township, Michigan, on August 27, 2024. Born in Detroit, Michigan, on June 3, 1952, he was the son of Harry Haroutiun and Zarry Zarouhi (nee Sahagian) Sarkisian. Growing up with his sisters, Sharon and Patricia, in Dearborn, Michigan, he graduated from Edsel Ford High School in 1970, where he was a member of the Marching Band.
Furthering his education, George earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1974 at Western Michigan University and successfully achieved his Masters of Business Degree at University of Michigan.
He started his career as a Powertrain Problem Analyst at Ford Motor Company. Becoming a Metrologist in the Precision Inspection lab, across multiple vehicle platforms, he was named the Powertrain Quality Team Leader.
George was an active member of the community; in his early years, he went to Sunday School in St. Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church, was in the church choir, attended Armenian School, was in the Armenian Dance Group, in the St. Sarkis Junior Guild, and was a member of the Armenian Youth Federation (AYF). He enjoyed doing in-depth research; so, as a Sports enthusiast, he wrote as a Sports Writer for the Detroit News.
In his leisure time, he played the clarinet and piano with musical enthusiasm. Endowed with a quirky sense of humor, George sincerely loved cats and had a big heart for animals.
George was a member of the Vanetzi Club. He enjoyed documenting the story of his family’s ancestry of being forced out of their homeland because of the Genocide, emigrating to Canada, and finally settling in the USA in search of opportunity and freedom.
