HAROUTOUN SHIKLANIAN Obituary

Haroutoun Kevork Shiklanian passed away April 7, 2016 in Dearborn, Michigan. Born September 15, 1923 in Jerusalem, he was the son of Kevork and Khatoun (Hammamdjian) Shiklanian. He attended Tarkmanchatchs School, from where he successfully graduated. Haroutoun became skillful in photography and made that his lifetime career. He was noted for his artistic work in capturing the essence of each subject, far ranging from private portraits to large crowds or buildings to landscapes. He had a strong patriotic and nationalistic spirit, which took him to move to Egypt, where he enrolled as a member of their RAF. He met his future wife there in the office of the RAF. They were married and she would be the mother of his daughter, Zevart. Haroutoun traveled to, and lived in many different countries. Included among them was Lebanon, where he continued his photography business and remained strongly connected to his Armenian roots. He came to the USA in 1963, living first in Chicago and then in Arizona. Almost like a magnet, he deeply felt Armenia calling him. So, Haroutoun went and lived 9 long years there. Coming back to America, he arrived in Arizona and finally came to Detroit, to live the rest of his life. Haroutoun Shiklanian loved his national heritage body and soul. He was completely devoted and dedicated to it. To be near his church and his beloved Agoump, he settled in the St Sarkis Senior Towers, where he unfortunately passed on. His wishes to be buried in Armenia will be honored, when his daughter, Zevart, will lovingly take his cremains to Armenia for his final rest.
