JOHN "Jr." NORAIAN

John Junior was born in Detroit on November 20, 1957, the second of two children to LuCille and John Noraian. Growing up he was nurtured by a loving Armenian family that included his sister Cyndi; all four grandparents, and several very close uncles, aunts, and cousins. Jr., as he was always known, attended St. John Armenian Church School, a summer or two at Camp Ararat, and those ACYOA Sports Weekends. He graduated from Andover High School in the Bloomfield Hills school district and went on to start college at Wayne State University and finish at Central Michigan University.His love of "all-things-sports" started with Little League baseball and led to a spot on the Wayne State varsity team. He was offered an athletic scholarship at Wayne, but turned it down in favor of transferring to Central. While at Central he took up Golden Gloves boxing - which inevitably culminated, several years later, in a much needed "nose job". After college, his desire to remain physically active turned to working, and working out, at the Vic Tanny Executive Club Gym where his father was a founding member. A staff position gave way to a management opportunity, the chance to make lifelong friends, and the beginning of a career with Bally International's athletic clubs.Jr. lived in Manhattan for a few years, where he managed New York's exclusive Vertical Club. While there, he did well at pretending to NOT be awestruck when meeting some of professional sports most elite athletes. From New York, Jr. moved to Overland Park, Kansas to manage his last club before coming back to Michigan and switching careers.Through good people and good fortune, he went to work with Flagstar Bank in a field totally unrelated to the pursuit of the perfect body. Working with mortgage loans he eventually became a Senior Auditor in that department. Did we mention that he loved all sports? That passion was exemplified when it came to competitive golf. Although he enjoyed the afternoons playing with his dad, uncles, brother-in-law, and cousins at numerous Armenian outings, the actual play could be punctuated by flying clubs, flailing arms, and choice words. Several sleeves of balls were NEVER found.Jr's generosity was a part of who he was. He was active in the philanthropy of the 100 Hyes and, although never the host of a gathering, always wanted to provide at least the main entrée at a family dinner. He was a good and loyal son; having dinner with his parents every Sunday. He continued the tradition with his mother after his father's passing. He called her every day on his way home from work at 4 o'clock and looked after her needs.Jr. will be dearly missed by his family and friends. FAMILY MEMBERSJohn M.
