John Shakarjian, Sr. peacefully passed away on January 16, 2024, in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Born on September 26, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of Marcus and Zarouhee (Samarian) Shakarjian. Growing up in Dearborn, Michigan, he received his primary education, graduating from Fordson High School.
Shortly after graduation, John entered the US Army in 1951, where he faithfully served his country as a Corporal in active duty in the Korean War. He was shot in combat and received the Purple Heart. He was Honorably Discharged in 1953 and returned to civilian life.
John continued his education at Eastern Michigan University, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. With his desire for more knowledge, he utilized his proficiency in learning and earned his Master of Science degree in Education.
John married the love of his life, Marie E. Patton, on August 15, 1959, and they happily raised their fine family, being blessed with three children, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. At the end of a long and tiring day, they enjoyed watching him get excited over horse racing or playing ten numbers at Keno during dinner.
In 1963, John received his Teaching Certificate and began his successful career as an educator. He first taught as a teacher in the Taylor School District, where he became a skillful and respected school principal. Completing his years of dedicated service in education, John fully merited his deserved retirement.
