Marguerite (Garabedian) Dakhlian peacefully passed away at home on September 15, 2024, with her loving family by her side. Born September 6, 1923, on Detroit’s Eastside, Marguerite was a remarkable woman whose life was a beautiful reflection of love, devotion, and strength.
She graduated at the top of her class from Southeastern High School. Recruited immediately out of school by Michigan Bell Telephone Co., she began her professional career, where she quickly rose through the ranks to become supervisor of the Payroll Department. Her career spanned 33 years, but not before she took a 12-year pause to devote herself fully to raising three children, a role she cherished above all else.
Marguerite’s love and devotion extended well beyond her family. For almost 70 years she was an active member of St. John Armenian Church giving her time and heart to organizations like the Women’s Guild and the Daughters of Vartan.
While raising her children, she also took an active interest in joining the PTA and becoming an official.
Not ever sitting idle, she took to learning to become a Master in the art of Armenian pastry making, a skill she used for all family events and later especially after retirement, sharing in the church kitchens. She found joy in leading the church kitchen in creating the pastries for the many years of bake sales.
After retirement, Marguerite spent over 40 Winters in her Clearwater, Florida condominium, a place always filled with sunshine, family, and friends.
She also filled her days as a prolific needle-pointer, passing out beautiful creations to friends and family, and was a master of crossword puzzles. She enjoyed playing Bridge with her Armenian ladies’ card group, and through the years, took trips across America, Europe, Greece, and Turkey with fellow church member friends.
But above all else, Marguerite's heart belonged to her family. A devoted mother and grandmother, who was always ready for babysitting duty, whether they called her Meema or Granny, she gave her love to each child.
Her strength, wisdom, and love left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her laughter, great sense of humor, and kind heart will forever be missed but never forgotten.
