MARY SEREMJIAN Obituary

Mary Seremjian peacefully passed away in Mesa, Arizona on August 6, 2024.  She was just 12 days short of her 102nd birthday. Mary was born on 8/18/1922 to Garabed and Shenor Talassian, both who were immigrants from Armenia, and did not speak English.  Although Mary was an only child, she was very close to her sister-in-law, Alice Keljik, and always said that she was the sister she never had.  Mary was always encouraged by her father and felt very blessed to live in the United States of America.  Her life can be considered an American Dream.  Her father would frequently remind her to be grateful for what she had, and that trait was ever apparent in her.

On May 19, 1946, Michael and Mary Seremjian were married in Detroit, Michigan.  They had met as pen pals during World War II.  Mary often wrote to the servicemen during the war to encourage them and to share things about home.  Their marriage was blessed with 4 children – Nancy, Patricia, Charles, and Kathleen -  9 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren.   In the early years, they lived in Detroit.  In 1964, they built a new home and moved to Bloomfield Township, MI.  In 1985, they moved to Novi, MI to be closer to their grandchildren.  In April of 1987, her husband Michael passed away suddenly at age 64.  She lived on her own in Novi for 29 years until 2016.

During most of these years, Mary was a stay-at-home mom. She was extremely dedicated to her family. She worked tirelessly to ensure their well-being.  She was very active at St John Armenian Church, where she was the elected chairman of the Women’s Guild and had countless friends.  She even managed to squeeze in a couple of trips to Europe with her honey.  In 2004, her dream of seeing the Grand Canyon with her grandchildren was realized.  Mary also had a special interest in Fine Jewelry. She worked until age 83 in sales at Jacobsen’s, Charles Warren Jewelers, and Lord and Taylor.

In 2016, Mary moved in with her daughter, Trish, who wonderfully took care of all her needs until her passing.  In 2019 they both moved to Mesa, Arizona.  In Arizona, she was able to enjoy the beautiful weather, walk, stay active, and be close to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  The kids were all thrilled to have both of them there.  Mary celebrated her 100th Birthday with a special blessing from Father Zacharia at St Apgar Armenian Church in Scottsdale, Arizona, followed by a special dinner with her whole family.

Mary was loved and cherished by many people, family, relatives, friends, and neighbors alike.  She will be deeply missed and will always be deeply regarded in our memories.
