Richard Gurunian, 93, of Detroit, passed away on May 8, 2020 surrounded by the love of his family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Sam and Mary Gurunian, his brother Charles Gurunian, his beloved wife Bea (Aunt Betty), and loving son Jeff.Richard was surrounded by a tight knit family and is survived by his son Rick and daughter- in- law Sandy of Charlotte, North Carolina, his brother Tony (Leo) Gurunian, nephews & wives Atam & Dianne Bedikian, Eddie & Mary Bedikian and Lenny Bedikian, nieces & husbands Christine & Mike Rogow , Lynn & Frank Guestella, and Lea & Jeff Schmidt, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews, and his caregiver, Barbara Collins, all from the surrounding suburbs of Detroit. Richard was also known as Dick, Uncle Dick, Mr. G, or Rick. He was a gregarious man with a playful disposition and a fun sense of humor. Whichever name was used, it was said with respect and love. He served as a cook in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Biloxi during WWII and would always joke that he had steak and eggs every morning because the Captain's portion was way too large. He was an avid scuba diver and belonged to the Dolphin Divers of Detroit with his brother Leo for many years, diving in the Great Lakes and the warm waters of Florida. Richard owned and operated Sam the Tailor side by side with his beloved brother, Tony (Leo), for 43 years near the old Briggs/Tiger Stadium, and was well known by the surrounding community.
