Virginia Mae Cross, 93, passed away quietly at home in South Carolina with family by her side.
Virginia was born Virginia Mae Hulun to Jacob and Sophie Hulun, Nov. 9, 1927 in Detroit, MI. She graduated from Northwestern High School in Detroit in 1945 and went on to earn a degree in Pharmacy from Wayne State University.
Virginia was a go-getter from an early age and followed in her dad’s footsteps by becoming a registered pharmacist, first working as an apprentice at Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit, and only five years later, being named Director of Pharmacy at Children’s. She went on to work part-time in hospital pharmacies for many years.
Virginia met George (Jack) Cross at a young adult group through St. John Armenian Church. They married June 27, 1954. Living in Livonia, MI, they raised two children where they loved entertaining friends and family in the backyard pool. For more than 30 years, the snowbirds spent half the year in Michigan and half in Florida. Jack passed away in 2014 in Bradenton, FL. They had been married 59 years.

Virginia is survived by two children, Marc (Gail) Cross of San Antonio, TX and Christine (Alan) Colcer of Waxhaw, NC.; sister Jessie (Tashjian) Macri of West Bloomfield, MI; brother Ralph (Yeran) Hulun of Alpharetta, GA.; and brother-in-law Dr. Gregory Cross of Cody, WY.
She loved her grandchildren: Jamie (Dan) Woeste of Ohio; Marc Colcer of California; and Anthony Cross, Austin Cross and John Cross of Texas. She was also loved by her nieces and nephews: Craig (Laurie) Tashjian; Jeff (Becky) Tashjian; Kathy (David) Jennings; Dr. Greg Jr. (Linda) Cross; Lt. Col. Rick (Rebecca) Hulun; Jill (Lee) Anderson; Kelsey Cross; Luke and Layla Anderson; and Ellie and Maddie Hulun.
FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS
A funeral service will be at St. John Armenian Church, 22001 Northwestern Hwy, Southfield, MI 48075 on May 22, 2021, Saturday at 11:30 a.m. The family will receive friends in the church from 10:00am until time of funeral service. Internment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Detroit, MI. Due to COVID restrictions, limited visitation will take place at the church prior to the service. Masks are required. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Omicron Student and Alumni Chapters of Lambda Kappa Sigma, a professional fraternity, which supports scholarships, grants and educational programming for pharmacy students and pharmacists at Wayne State University.
