Valantin Sarkissian Obituary

On the 30th of January, 1930, Valantin Derwishian was born in Aleppo, Syria, to a couple of Armenian Genocide survivors, Sarkis and Maryam Derwishian. She spent her childhood surrounded by a loving family that included three sisters and one brother siblings. She was the youngest among the sisters and the second youngest overall in the Derwishian family. From early age, like all her siblings, her parents made sure that Valantin was inculcated in everything that made her a Christian Armenian in identity, mind, spirit, and character. Chief among the attributes infused into her by her parents were: kindness, love of others, hard work, and selflessness. At the age of seventeen she was engaged to her future husband of forty years, Antranik Sarkissian. At nineteen, she was married to him. The couple had their first three children, Toros, Maida, and Sarkis in Aleppo. After moving to Beirut, Lebanon, they had their fourth and last child, Sebouh. In her upbringing of her children, everything Mrs. Valantin learned from her parents, she diligently passed it to her children. In 1976 she had to endure her long but temporary separation from her firstborn child as her son, Toros, in search of a better life, traveled to and settled in the United States. In 1980, while the ravages of this separation were still smoldering, she had to come to terms with another temporary separation from her other two children as Maida and Sarkis also moved to the United States. Maida travelled to the United States, as the bride of the late Mr. Vahe Injeyan, and Sarkis came in search of a better life. In 1982, she was reunited with all her children, as she and her only child remaining with her came to the United States. The reunion was bittersweet, though. As she had to temporarily leave her dear husband behind for a year. It wasn't until 1983 when the entire family was once again reunited in one place. After six short years from this joyous reunion, she was destined to become a widow in 1989 as Mr. Antranik Sarkissian departed this world after a short bout with cancer. Between 1982 and 2000, God saw it fitting that Mrs. Valantin be gifted with five grandchildren, and more recently with four great grandchildren. Although, she was able to meet and see only the two oldest great grandchildren. About three months ago, weakened from years of neurological pathologies, Mrs. Valantin fell and broke her hip one night. For her, that was the beginning of the end. Her delicate and feeble body was unable to mount a resistance. Instead, it rendered her prone to complications and ultimately caused her demise. In the very early hours of February 20th, Mrs. Valantin succumbed to the unrelenting barrage of complications and closed her eyes for the last time, never to open them again. ,,,,,,,,Family members: Beloved wife of the late Antranik.
